Tour guide David 'Billy' Herman
David ‘Billy’ Herman (°1983) is not just a tour guide for Starling, he is also the initiator of this travel concept. He likes nothing better than to bring people together with the same passion, show them the tricks of the trade and go in search, together with them, of that one ultimate observation. He loves a bit of adventure, good food and beautiful landscapes!
Nature as leitmotif
Since he was 7 years old, tour guide David ‘Billy’ Herman has been inspired by the late Franky Bonne, founder of the Youth and Nature Movement De Stekkers. His passion? Macro fauna (mammals, amphibians, reptiles, large insects) and flora, but especially birds. With an extensive knowledge and a few spectacular finds as a result. His most sensational discovery is a new species for Belgium: a Sandpiper which unexpectedly showed up when he was looking for plants. Billy has given several lectures, including at the Belgian Bird Day. For several years now he has specialised in nature photography, especially during nature study excursions. Cherry on the cake: his selection for the final of the Argus Photo Competition 2013.
Billy worked at JNM, a youth movement for nature, as educational assistant and for a number of years for a Life-project at Natuurpunt, one of the biggest nature organisations in Belgium.
For the last decade, David ‘Billy’ Herman has been travelling the world looking for the most imaginative species. From numerous European countries like Spain, Poland and Georgia to Morocco, South Africa, Vietnam, India and many South American countries like Colombia as the most spectacular destinations. Spotting the Snow Leopard was probably the most fun.
